SETU-GSU Paper Presentation at IEEE SoutheastCon 2025

I am delighted to announce that Mr Jack Mei of Georgia Southern College of Engineering & Computing, Georgia Southern University presented our work entitled “Super-Resolution GANs for Enhancing License Plate Detection from Distorted Inputs” at IEEE hashtag#IEEESoutheastcon 2025 on which Dr Rami Haddad and I have collaborated.

There were lots of very interesting questions that Jack answered very well. What is even more impressive is not only is this Jack’s second publication, but he is still a third year undergraduate. Congratulations, Jack and Rami! Let the successful GSU-SETU collaborations continue.

Research Visit to Georgia Southern University

I would like to thank Dr Rami Haddad for orchestrating a very successful meet and greet with me and his colleagues of Georgia Southern College of Engineering & Computing on 25th March 2025.

Rami organised meetings with Dr Lewis Stetson Rowles, Dr David C. Weindorf, Dr Lei Chen, Dr Hossein Taheri, Mr Jack Mei, Dr Vladimir Gurau, Dr Masoud Davari.

The meetings have generated a load of ideas and avenues of research where SETU Electronics Carlow, SETU Research, Innovation and Impact, and South East Technological University could collaborate.

Jack Mei (Rami’s research student) is to present research at IEEE #IEEESoutheastcon 2025 on which I have collaborated with Jack and Rami.

Rami, along with other colleagues, brought me on several tours of their lab facilities, where I met a number of students and staff. Dr Masoud Davari showed me his power and robotics labs. Dr Valentin Soloiu showed me a number of machine learning related projects that he and his students are working on, along with various aerospace fuel related projects. Dr Gustavo Maldonado gave us a look at some drone and lidar related research he and his students are investigating.

Our JUSC Publication of “Zero-shot Learning for Subdiscrimination in Pre-trained Models”

I am happy to announce that our publication “Zero-shot Learning for Subdiscrimination in Pre-trained Models” has been published in the JUCS – Journal of Universal Computer Science.

Congratulations to the SETU engCORE principal investigator and co-supervisor Dr Vincent O’Brien, our PhD student Ryan Furlong, and our co-authors from the University King Juan Carlos, Madrid, Spain, Dr Francisco Dominguez-Mateos, and Dr Daniel Palacios – Alonso.
